1. Controller

The controller responsible for data processing under GDPR is Tipza.

2. Data we collect

We may collect the following personal data:

Email address
Display name or nickname
Tip split records and history
Carry-over amounts
App usage data (feature usage, crash reports)
Technical data (IP address, device type, operating system, app version)

2.1 Tip split calculations

Tipza records and displays tip split calculations based on information provided by users. Tipza stores calculated values for display and history, and does not collect, hold, or distribute funds. Employers and teams remain responsible for payments, payroll, and tax compliance.

3. Legal basis for processing

We process personal data based on:

Contractual necessity (to provide the service)
User consent (account creation, analytics where applicable)
Legitimate interest (app improvement and security)

Create and manage user accounts
Perform and store tip calculations
Sync data across devices
Improve app stability and performance
Provide user support

5. Data storage and retention

Data is stored securely using cloud infrastructure and local device storage. We retain data only as long as necessary to provide the service or until you request deletion.

We do not sell personal data. We may share limited data with trusted service providers for:

Authentication
Analytics
Cloud hosting

All providers are contractually bound to comply with GDPR.

You have the right to:

8. International data transfers

If data is transferred outside the EU, we ensure appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect personal data against unauthorized access, loss, or misuse.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date.

11. This website

Sections 1 to 10 describe the Tipza app. This section describes tipza.app, including the blog.

No cookies, and no consent banner. The website sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device except a note of which articles you have rated, described below. There is nothing to consent to and nothing to opt out of.

Audience measurement. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views and page performance. It is cookieless, it does not fingerprint your browser, and it does not build a profile of you across sites or visits.

Interaction events. Alongside page views we record a short, fixed list of actions: reaching the end of an article, rating an article, clicking an App Store button, switching language, opening a related article, using a table of contents, and following a citation. Each record is the name of the action, the page it happened on and at most one short label — for example which store button was clicked. No identifier is attached, so these records cannot be linked to each other or to you. If your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, nothing is recorded at all.

Article feedback. When you answer “Was this article helpful?” we store the article, the language, your answer, and — if you tell us — which of four fixed reasons applied. We also store a one-way hash derived from your IP address, your browser’s user agent string and the current date. That value exists only to stop one person voting repeatedly; it cannot be reversed, and because the date is part of it, it stops matching the next day. Your IP address itself is never stored. Your browser remembers which articles you have rated so that the question is not asked twice; you can clear that at any time through your browser’s site data settings.

Legal basis. Legitimate interest under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR: understanding which articles are useful, in a form that does not identify readers.
